Purple Trillium

Trillium recurvatum
biota:

Purple Trillium, or Prairie Trillium

Purple Trillium; also Prairie Trillium

Purple Trillium is also known as Prairie Trillium, though I can't recall ever seeing one in a prairie. Rather, these spring wildflowers are reasonably common in rich woods. In their prime the purplish petals stand straight. The three leaf-like "bracts" are frequently mottled. Usually taller than the similar Toadshade, with which it often shares locations.
