Holliday Park is a city park on the north side of Indianapolis, along the White River.
Trails explore ravines and adjacent uplands along the White River. Much of the park consists of grassy areas and playgrounds, but it is possible to put some – not a lot, but some - distance between yourself and the crowds by venturing onto the trail system.
Trails 1 and 2 begin east of the playground area and traverse stairs and boardwalks along the flood plain; a side trail offers access to the river itself. Trail 3 connects the rock garden and the excellent Nature Center via two nice ravines; Trail 4 begins and ends at the Nature Center, passing a pond along the way.
I like a stretch of Trail 7 just north and east of that pond; seeps line the uphill slope and host blossoming skunk cabbage every year around Valentine’s Day.
